About Me

My name is Alex Stork, and I am an aspiring Front-End Web Developer. I graduated from the University of Texas A&M in 2016, with a Bachelor's of Science in Economics. I really enjoy working with computers and technology, because it's all connected and can be constantly improved upon.

I like to play video games, work out, and hang out with my wife and family. I have a very analytic mindset and love to work with numbers and logic. I discovered when I took a Programming course in college but have only recently become passionate about it in 2019. I realized that with my logical way of thinking and my stengths with computers, I'd be a fantastic programmer if I took the time to learn.

When I graduated college in 2016, I actually began working in the Logistics and Supply Chain industry, working my way up from a Customer Service Associate to an Operations Project Manager. I actually believe coming from a background in Logistics rather than jumping straight into programming is actually a benefit, as it allows me to bring a new perspective to a programming team.

I am now currently working on a NanoDegree through Udacity on Front-End Web Development, and have been tirelessly studying and working on code. My goal is to continue to self-teach until I have general basic knowledge of both front-end and back-end development, and/or I have the opportunity to work in a programming job where I can practice my skills in real application.

My Hobbies

Spending Time with my Wife

In my spare time I like spending time with my wife. We've been married for over 2 years, and met in college.

We enjoy going to the movies, going out to eat, and going swimming.

Video Games

I also like to play video games. I have a Playstation, Switch, and a gaming PC.

I hope to one day be able to create my own video game, or work on a team that develops one.

Fitness

Working Out

I like to work out at the gym, and try to at least 4 times a week in the mornings before work.

I find it more challenging to keep working out if I take too many days off, which is why momentum is so important!

Running

I also try to run races at least once a year. I've run 2 half marathons and 1 marathon.

While at first apprehensive, I finally convinced my wife to run a half marathon with me in November of 2018.

Work

My Job

I currently work at a Transportation company that hauls both dry and refrigerated freight.

Over the past few years I've slowly been transitioning to working more with data analytics and working with software than with the logistics aspect of the job.

Programming at Work

My current company works with an antiquated system called AS400, but I've introduced more modern technologies to our operation like Google Drive and Slack.

I do get practice with coding at work currently, but the majority is with Excel formulas. I eventually want to work at a job that is more in-depth with programming.

Future

As I continue to push myself to learn how to program, I hope to soon work at a job where I can practice and use these skills full-time.

My goal is to transition to a full-time Software Development role by 2020. As long as I manage my time well over this period of time, and continue to promote learning, I will be able to do this.
